Rabbit skin glue Sennelier
Rabbitskin glue has been in use for centuries. It comes from animal skin and bones, from which collagen is extracted in gelatin form. Valued greatly for its strength and versatility, rabbitskin glue is very easy to use. Rabbitskin glue can be used as a size for canvas, binder for paints such as distemper, sizing coat for absorbent supports and as an undercoat for gilding. Among its many other uses, it is also utilized in white gelatin. Rabbitskin glue is highly resistant to oil, hence its popularity as a size. It is so flexible that canvases prepared with rabbitskin glue can be rolled without cracking.
Do not dissolve rabbitskin glue unless it has soaked for at least half a day, then brought to a minimum temperature of 37°C or higher. Keep it gently heated to preserve it in a liquid state.
